Frequently Asked Questions

cBidz is an auction based online marketplace where members can buy and sell directly to other members and get the best value for their items whether they are buying or selling!
cBidz allows its user community to list their items online on the mobile app, in an auction format and manages all aspects of the auction. With its proximity search, cBidz allows potential buyers to find items of interest locally so that they can complete the transaction in person.
Being an auction based transaction, cBidz empowers its users to buy and sell at the best prices possible under the current market conditions as they relate to that item’s supply and demand.

Being an auction based marketplace, cBidz makes sure whether you are buying or selling you get the best value under the given market conditions of supply and demand.

Our application strives to make the transaction a win-win for the user regardless of whether they are buying or selling on the platform.

cBidz empowers you, whether you are buying or selling, to control your goals – the seller makes sure that they get at least the minimum amount that they are willing to sell for and the buyer controls the maximum that they are willing to spend on an item.

The cBidz application and service are being offered free of any cost to the user community. The winning buyer only pays the seller for the closing price of the auction which cannot exceed the amount the buyer bid.

cBidz is neither responsible for, nor facilitates the exchange of monies and the item being sold. That is left between the buyer and seller, to complete the transaction, after the auction closes.

  • Seller lists item for sale: The seller goes through a wizard driven easy 4-step listing process. First the app detects your location; you may change that if you are selling from a different location than where you are. Don’t worry, your exact location and address are not shared with anyone. Then you chose the category of the item you are trying to sell. Next you add relevant product information including the lowest price  you are willing to accept for the item (starting price). Finally, you add pictures of the item and complete the listing process.

  • Buyer searches for items: Searches can be done by simply scrolling through the mobile-app and also by searching the name of an item of interest. Results are provided based on a distance from the searching device’s location. You may also search in an area or address away from your current location. Advanced and filtered searches allow you to get more granular on your search critera.

  • Buyer places a bid: Interested buyers then place a bid on an item that they wish to buy. When you place a bid you can either place the minimum required bid or a higher value bid. If you were to place a higher value bid than the minimum required amount based on the other bids already in the system, the application calculates the winning bid and displays that as the winner. If someone previously had a higher or equal bid in the system you will not win that bid. However, if there were no other bids equal to or higher than your bid you would be the winner, at that point in time, with an amount either equal to or quite possibly even lower than your bid amount. This bidding process continues on till the auction time runs out.

  • Auction time ends: There are no extension times in the auctions on our application; each auction runs for 3 days (exactly 72 hours) from the time it is started. At that exact time, when the auction ends, if there are any bids on the item the bidder with the highest bid would win the auction.

  • The last mile: cBidz is only responsible to brings buyers and sellers together and faciliate the auction. Once the auction ends the buyers and sellers are notified and they complete the transaction amongst themselves. cBidz does not facilitate the payment or transfer of the item. Even though cBidz is not responsible for anything after the auction ends we recomend that people use caution when they meet up to exchange the auction item for the monies that are owed for the item. Some suggested safety guidelines can be found under the security section.

  • No bids on a listing: There is always a chance that the item listed does not receive any bids. If no bids are received during an auction the item listed did not sell and can be relisted by the seller. In such cases the seller may want to do a market search to see how much similar items are selling for and make sure that their starting asking price reflects the market conditions. The idea is to list an item at the lowest acecptable price and then let the bidding process determine the final selling price based on market demand.

There is a minimum bid increment based on the current bid price of an item in an auction. In the cBidz application this minimum increment changes based on the current winning bid amount; and could be anywhere from $0.25 to as much as $100.00.

We have set these increments based on a range that is shown below

cBidz does not and cannot guarantee that a party will honor their commitment to buy or sell. The only recourse users have is to rate their transactions with other users.

Listing an item should be considered a commitment to sell by the seller and a bid should be considered a commitment to buy the item at the respective prices. Once the auction closes, the buyer and seller connect and figure out delivery/pickup and payment options. The de facto method is pickup by the buyer unless the seller specifies delivery or is negotiated between the respective parties.

Repeat offenders will be removed from the platform.

Other apps such as Facebook Marketplace or Offerup/Letgo  are proven platforms and are excellent online marketplaces to transact.

The value that cBidz adds to similar buying and selling apps is that we leverage an auction-based platform for transacting at the fair market value of an item. There are benefits of an auction model:

  1. All auctions end at a specific time so there is no ambiguity of whether or not a listed item is still available.
  2. Sellers don’t have to respond to low ball offers from potential buyers who may not be serious about buying the item.
  3. With the right community size of buyers and sellers an item will always sell for its fair market value. If an item is overpriced by a zealous seller there may not be any bids on the item. Alternately a lower than market value listing will drive up the price to its real market value based on demand.

When listing an item set your starting price at the very lowest you are willing to accept for that item. It is common for sellers to overvalue what they are selling. Always put yourself in a sellers shoes and think what is the most you will pay for that item.

Being an auction based model, cBidz will allow for a fair market value of any listing, provided the community size is optimal. To ensure you have the most eyes on your listing use our provided links after your listing to promote your listing via your social networks and direct connections.

Whether you are a buyer or seller always rate the other party on the transaction. This helps the entire community as they transact with that person. Amongst other things always keep the following in mind as you rate users:

  • Were they responsive with any questions asked during the auction?
  • How was the interaction after the auction ended?
  • Was the item “as described” in the listing?
  • Did they honor their commitment in meeting up to deliver the item sold or in terms of paying for the item won?

We cannot think of all possible scenarios when it comes to people with devious or less than honorable intentions. We recommend everyone use common sense and trust their instincts when it comes to meeting strangers to complete the last mile of the transaction.

We have some guidelines listed at https://cbidz.com/security/ Please do not consider this as a complete list. If you have any additional suggestions please email us at safety@cBidz.com

cBidz does not mediate the payment aspect nor logistics with delivery/pickup. We suggest you never meet strangers alone and pay with tools like Venmo, Zelle, Paypal, and others at the time of pickup.
